Presenter Biography:

Steven D. Collins, PhD, has been a faculty member in the Department of Interpretation and Translation for 23 years.  Dr. Collins is a Fulbright Scholar who has worked extensively with Deafblind communities in the U.S. and Italy, with a specialty in Tactile American Sign Language (TASL) interpretation.  HIs doctoral research focused on sociolinguistic variation in the use of non-manual signals in TASL. He received his doctoral degree from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Collins graduated from Gallaudet University in 1984 with major in Communication Arts. Since that time, he has been a Deaf interpreter.  Dr. Collins was the first Deaf student to get Master degree in Interpretation from Gallaudet University in 1992.  After he received his Master’s degree, he joined Gallaudet Interpreting Service as a Deafblind specialist. In 1994, he became a faculty member at Department of Interpretation and Translation.  Early in his career journey, he was one of individuals who volunteered to work with RID to establish the Certificate of Deaf Interpretation Certification (CDI), he has now worked as an interpreter for over 25 years.

CEUs: VRID is an approved RID CMP Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This program is offered for 0.6 CEUs in the content area of professional studies. No partial session CEUs will be awarded. Late arrivals will not receive CEUs.

Cancellation Policy:  Full refunds will be issued if written notice is provided to VRID two weeks prior to the event. No refunds will be issued within two weeks of the event start date. Reasonable accommodation requests please contact the POC two weeks prior to the event.
