Workshop Description: Transitions in ASL: This activity will incorporate transitions in ASL. Students do not always know how to incorporate transitions or know which transition means what, and when to use them. This workshop will review the purpose and when transitions are used. Hands on practice will be provided.
Review of ASL Grammar: This activity will incorporate ASL grammar. While most do know how to use ASL grammar, this is a review to make sure that the students will be able to practice approximately 10 different ASL grammar rules as a refresher. Hands on practice will be provided.
Presenter Bio: 
Rhonda Jennings-Arey has taught Deaf students for 20 years in a PreK-12 setting. Her first teaching experience was in middle school at the Maryland School for the Deaf. She also taught at the high school level at the Cathedral Home for Children in Laramie, Wyoming. where she also acted as a consultant to people about Deaf Education and Deaf Culture. She taught at the Maryland School for the Deaf in Columbia and at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School as well as the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind. She taught staff ASL classes and provided prescriptive tutoring to staff members whose Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) levels have not been met. She also rates SLPI tapes at VSDB and VQAS tapes from the VDDHH. She attended the ASL/English Bilingual Education Training at Delaware School for the Deaf for two years to help VSDB make the transition from Total Communication Philosophy to ASL/English Bilingual Education Philosophy.
She is currently an adjunct associate professor at the Piedmont Virginia Community College teaching ASL 101 and 102, and adjunct faculty member teaching ASL and ASL drill at the University of Virginia. She taught Basic Sign Language at Towson University, ASL 101 and 102 at the Blue Ridge Community College, and two graduate classes: ESL for the Deaf and Literacy for Deaf Students at McDaniel College in the past. She obtained her ASLTA certification at the qualified level and endorsement in ASL instruction through the state of Virginia. She has a National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adult Language Arts. She has several college degrees. Her degrees and certifications include: BS in Food and Nutrition, MA in Deaf Education, Post Graduate Certification in Literacy Specialist, Post Graduate Certification in Administration and Supervision in the Special Education area, and MA in Sign Language Teaching focusing in different areas of ASL such as linguistics, assessment, curriculum, and methods. She recently obtained her doctoral degree in the School of Education, specializing in Post-Secondary and Adult Education.
