Presenter Bios:

Robert Strickler Jr. was born Deaf in Waynesboro, Virginia. He graduated from Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) in 2007. Robert then received his bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies and a minor in Linguistics from Gallaudet University in 2011. He is currently working as a teaching assistant at his alumni VSDB, and as an American Sign Language Drill instructor at the University of Virginia. Robert has been able to teach in various settings and has done some deaf interpreting.

Jessica Paschal is from Frederick, MD. She loves to twirl baton and has spent over a decade in that sport. She had the opportunity to go overseas and represent our country at the 2012 World Baton Twirling Championship in Neuchatel, Switzerland. Our team won a gold medal! Jessica enjoyed seeing Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, but her favorite place was Prague in the Czech Republic. She loves to help people. As a high school student, Jessica mentored younger girls that were participating in sports, but were having academic issues because English was their second language. As you know, Frederick, MD is home to the Maryland School for the Deaf. Her love of Deaf culture was one of the drivers in her career choice. She decided to become a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. While attending the University of Tennessee, Jessica completed an internship at the Tennessee School for the Deaf. She began teaching at the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, GA and currently teaches elementary school students at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton, VA. Teaching is her absolute passion!
