Session Information:

The purpose of the workshop is to expose interpreters and interpreting students to risqué and taboo vocabulary in American Sign Language. The goal of the workshop is to familiarize participants with these terms so that they are more prepared to provide an accurate interpretation when they encounter this vocabulary out in the field. The workshop will involve discussion and ethical implications related to situations involving this type of vocabulary. Participants will be asked to predict the types of interpreting situations where they might encounter this type of vocabulary, what possible interpersonal demands they could face, and what possible controls may be utilized.
